One thing that hasn't been talked about very much, though, is what did the PARENTS of the bullies know and when did they know it? And if they knew, did they CARE that their children were bullies, if they believed that in the first place? More on that here: http://parenting.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/04/01/the-parents-of-the-bully/ Elsewhere, a family therapist once wrote that he had never received a letter from a bully's parent asking for help. His theory was that most parents of bullies are latent bullies themselves. That would *seem* to fit in with a certain well-known 1950s fictional spoiled brat who liked "bossing and bullying" - Eustace Scrubb. That is, as you may remember from the end of C.S. Lewis' book, everyone is delighted with Eustace's brand-new modesty and civility towards others - except his mother, who now describes him as "commonplace and tiresome." Lenona.
