Yes, he was a former director of the NIH. While he was there, and
AFTER he is supposed to have said that stupid thing about vaccines, he
headed the NIH's vaccination program.

Actually, his father is Bill Gates. And the foundation is named for his
father and mother.

So? What conclusions about the man do you draw? I draw that he is a
driven businessman. Very logical and able to make good things happen.

Internet Explorer at the time was better.

His foundation is a non-profit. It doesn't have to worry about taxes.

He focused on Office software because it brought results. He focusing on
vaccines because it also will bring results in reduced sickness and
deaths, improved health and better lives.

However, he does have a narrow focus on vaccines. He also works to
control malaria by developing new drugs and by having malaria control
programs on the ground.

He is working on improving material and neonatal health in general, too.

Bill Gates was able to build a company by focusing on a particular
product, software, and particular aspects of that product, like office,
networking and operating system software.

He is doing the same thing: focusing on preventable diseases, developing
new ways to prevent or cure those diseases, and maternal and child
health. In the US, he is focusing on education.

So his focus on vaccines is nether narrow nor insane. Rather it is
focused and well-thought out.
