In view of the ongoing publication, promotion and adoption of
abominable doorstops, no one should be surprised by the continuing
pseudo-education of American students. Recently I examined:

"Algebra and Trigonometry: Structure and Method"
Book 2 (2009 Impression)
McDougal Littell (895 pages)

Authors: Richard G. Brown, Mary P. Dolciani, Robert H. Sorgenfrey,
Robert B. Kane

Contributing Authors: Sandra K. Dawson, Barbara Nunn

Teacher Consultants: Keith Bangs, Doris Holland, Ouidasue Nash, Al
Varness

This is the current version of the book that was part of the series,
published in the 1960s by Houghton Mifflin, which demolished the
traditional college preparatory mathematics curriculum in the the U.S.

involve repetitious mindless manipulations of meaningless algebraic
expressions. These are followed by more meaningful word problems that,
for the most part, are not assigned.
